Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Professional Engagement and Strategic Initiatives, Legal Education Programs, and with a deep appreciation for and understanding of the distinctive teaching, learning and scholarship at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, the Director of Legal Education Programs develops, implements, and administers both revenue generating and non-revenue generating innovative and substantive live and on-line on-demand programming and courses across this wide array of audiences through various platforms and modes of delivery.

Job Description

Responsibilities include:

Program and Course Development
  • Develop and share a deep knowledge of the needs for legal education across a wide array of audiences.
  • Research potential markets and identify interested and interesting potential audiences and partners.
  • and recommend and prioritize programming opportunities across platforms and modes of delivery.
  • Identify promising areas of program and professional development opportunities that complement Penn Carey Law's curricular and cross-disciplinary strengths that capitalize on faculty strengths and market interest, including Lifelong Learning opportunities and programs for Law alumni.
  • Develop programs and courses across departmental areas and initiatives to ensure an excellent array of programming and deliverables.
  • Recommend and prioritize programming opportunities across platforms and modes of delivery.
  • Identify and collaborate with faculty to develop and deliver exemplary programs and courses.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments to amplify content and initiatives throughout Penn Carey Law.

Marketing and Delivery

  • Develop strong enrollment efforts as well as conduct careful analysis of participants, learners, and alumni satisfaction.
  • Develop, propose, and monitor program budgets.
  • Develop excellent strategic marketing and branding efforts for existing and new legal education programs and initiatives.
  • Represent Penn Carey Law and Legal Education Programs to a variety of audiences both to research potential programs and to market existing programs.

Program Management
  • Develop and maintain relationships prior to and during programs with prospective clients and program participants.
  • Collaborate with faculty and colleagues across departments to ensure the development of innovative and informative curricula and exemplary delivery.
  • Interact with and serve as point of contact with third party platform and external vendors
  • Develop and implement mechanisms for receiving feedback on each program across LEP program areas
  • Develop and implement mechanisms for tracking program goals, program participation and engagement across Legal Education programming.
  • Develop and prepare quarterly reports on each of the Legal Education Programs areas for the Associate Dean and for broader audiences
  • Recommend program enhancements.
  • Prepare program budgets; working with Business Affairs, reconcile program income and expenses across program areas.

Other Duties as Assigned

Candidate Qualifications:

JD required. JD/MBA preferred. The successful candidate will have five to seven years experience in higher education administration and/or the creation and launching of new executive education or other educational programs. The successful candidate will have three to five years in on-line education administration and/or creation and launching of online courses and content through internal and external platforms. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent understanding of effective research and marketing strategies. The successful candidate will have a portfolio showing strong project management skills. Candidates must demonstrate a track record of flexibility; the ability to prioritize, focus, and complete multiple, time sensitive tasks; and the ability to work well with a wide variety of people. We seek candidates who have established track records as collaborators in the workplace, within the immediate department and within the larger institution.
